SpaceX has received equipment authorization from the Federal Communications Commission for an unreleased Starlink Wi-Fi 7 router carrying the model number UTR-261.
According to PCMag, regulatory documents indicate the UTR-261 operates under the IEEE 802.11be standard, specifically listing EHT20 and EHT40 modulation profiles alongside legacy wireless protocols. The filing reveals the hardware is limited to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Because the FCC grant excludes the 5.925GHz to 7.125GHz spectrum, the device operates as a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 unit without 6GHz capability.
The UTR-261 follows SpaceX's compact Router Mini, designated model UTR-251, which gained FCC authorization in April 2025. While user manuals and internal photography remain protected under a 180-day confidentiality request, schematics submitted to regulators highlight several physical specifications. The unit features two Ethernet ports, an AC power input, and a USB-C port that may supply power. The documentation also confirms support for Power over Ethernet.
Manufacturing labels submitted with the application indicate the indoor-only unit is assembled in Vietnam. The FCC recently granted SpaceX a temporary exemption regarding foreign-sourced router production, clearing the hardware for sale in the United States.
The regulatory clearance follows SpaceX's rollout of its redesigned V5 dish. The V5 terminal has a smaller, more power-efficient footprint than previous V4 hardware, with maximum satellite downlink speeds rated above 375Mbps. SpaceX currently pairs the V5 terminal with the lower-range Router Mini for entry-level setups.
Starlink website updates suggest the new hardware could reach subscribers soon. Storefront listings for the Residential 100Mbps service tier now include fine print stating that customers may receive an upgraded router relative to advertised equipment, signaling that deployment of the UTR-261 is imminent.
