AVM has expanded its DSL hardware line with the launch of the FRITZ!Box 7630, a compact router that integrates Wi-Fi 7 wireless capabilities directly into a traditional DSL home network. The device targets users who want current-generation wireless standards but still rely on copper-based broadband connections instead of fiber optics.
The FRITZ!Box 7630 supports Wi-Fi 7 across both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, delivering a combined maximum wireless speed of up to 3.5 Gbps. By using a 2x2 antenna configuration, the router introduces features like Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and Punctured Mode to traditional DSL deployments. These features improve connection stability in crowded wireless environments, which prevents local interference from degrading overall network performance.
On the broadband side, the router includes an integrated DSL modem supporting VDSL Supervectoring 35b, which delivers download speeds of up to 300 Mbps. For local wired networking, AVM outfitted the device with a single 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port alongside three standard Gigabit Ethernet ports. The multi-gigabit port allows the unit to connect to external modems or serve as a high-speed link for network-attached storage or performance-oriented desktop PCs.
The FRITZ!Box 7630 serves as a central hub for telephony and smart home devices. It includes an integrated DECT base station supporting up to six cordless handsets. It also features an analog telephone port and compatibility with IP-based telephony. Users can manage smart home products that use the DECT ULE standard, such as radiator thermostats and smart plugs, directly from the router’s administrative panel. A single USB 3.0 port enables basic network-attached storage functionality via the integrated media server.
As reported by tech publication Basic Tutorials, AVM positioned the FRITZ!Box 7630 as a mid-range choice, sitting between the high-end FRITZ!Box 7690 and specialized devices like the FRITZ!Box 7632. Setting up the device is handled through the MyFRITZ! app, which includes an installation wizard to migrate configuration settings from older hardware. The FRITZ!Box 7630 is available for purchase at a recommended retail price of €299.
