Asus introduced its first Wi-Fi 8 networking hardware at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, detailing the quad-band ROG Rapture GT-BN98 gaming router and the ZenWiFi BN12 mesh system alongside a wider refresh of its Republic of Gamers lineup.
The ROG Rapture GT-BN98 serves as the flagship networking entry in the company's 20th-anniversary hardware collection. Asus rates the quad-band router for theoretical peak throughput of up to 25,000 Mbps. On the physical interface side, the chassis includes two 10GbE ports and four 2.5GbE ports, accommodating multi-gigabit WAN inputs alongside high-bandwidth LAN clients. Built-in software features include AI Game Boost traffic prioritization, a real-time diagnostic suite called WiFi Insight, and network-level tracker blocking.
Alongside the dedicated gaming router, Asus presented the ZenWiFi BN12 for whole-home deployments requiring broad coverage rather than specialized esports features. The tri-band mesh system delivers cumulative throughput of up to 19,000 Mbps and covers spaces up to 650 square meters. Both the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 and the ZenWiFi BN12 integrate with the Asus AiMesh platform, allowing users to combine either unit with existing compatible hardware across a wired or wireless backhaul.
The networking announcements formed part of a broader hardware exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand, Basic Tutorials reported. Hardware on display also included the 24.5-inch ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace, an esports monitor operating at 720 Hz that will retail for 1,149.90 euros in late 2026. Asus also debuted the ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld PC powered by AMD's Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, several lightweight gaming mice with 8,000 Hz polling rates, and specialized graphics cards developed in collaboration with AMD and Capcom.
Asus has not yet published retail pricing or specific regional shipping dates for either the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 or the ZenWiFi BN12. While monitor shipments and handheld availability begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, rollout schedules for the new Wi-Fi 8 hardware will depend on final silicon certification and regional regulatory approvals.
