SpaceX has unveiled the Starlink Router 4 across official support documentation, introducing Wi-Fi 7 capabilities and dual Power over Ethernet connectivity to its satellite broadband platform.
The hardware details, reported by PCMag, follow an August 2026 Federal Communications Commission filing approving the device under model number UTR-261. While the Router 4 is not yet listed for individual sale in the official Starlink shop, SpaceX published initial setup instructions and hardware comparison documentation before sharing video footage of the unit, noting that availability will begin in select areas soon.
According to support documentation published on Starlink.com, the Router 4 measures 8 by 4 by 1.8 inches, adopting a design language similar to the Starlink Router Mini but with an expanded chassis. The enclosure incorporates an LED status indicator, a physical factory reset button, and water-resistant port covers. It provides Wi-Fi coverage up to 3,500 square feet, up from the 2,000 square feet rated for the Router Mini.
The internal radios step up to Wi-Fi 7, with SpaceX stating that the router uses a Wi-Fi 7 chipset to deliver faster connection rates, wider coverage, and improved performance in congested wireless environments. The company noted that the hardware features tri-band radios intended to bolster mesh backhaul throughput. However, the published specifications show the Router 4 operates strictly across the 2.4GHz and 5GHz spectrum bands, omitting 6GHz support.
On the wired side, the Router 4 features two Ethernet ports that both support Power over Ethernet (PoE). Starlink stated that the unit will serve as the primary router on Dual PoE kits, including the Standard 4 Upgrade Kit and upcoming bundles shipping directly with the unit. The system draws operational power directly over Ethernet from the Dual PoE power supply rather than relying on a standalone wall adapter.
Official compatibility documentation lists support for several dish iterations, including the Router Mini, Standard 4, Standard 4 X, Starlink Mini, Starlink Performance (Gen 1), and Starlink Standard Circular antennas. The documentation noticeably omits explicit mention of the newer V5 dish hardware currently rolling out across the United States. While Starlink's satellite download speeds typically range between 100Mbps and 300Mbps, the upgraded local Wi-Fi 7 PHY rates and dual PoE design should help alleviate internal network bottlenecks and simplify installation for multi-node deployments.
