Apple's iPhone 16 Series to Include Wi-Fi 7 Across All Models
Apple's iPhone 16 series introduces Wi-Fi 7 across all models, offering faster speeds, lower latency, and improved reliability.
Earlier rumors suggested that Wi-Fi 7 would be exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro models, but Apple has confirmed that all iPhone 16 models, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will feature Wi-Fi 7 support with 2x2 MIMO.
What Wi-Fi 7 Brings to the Table
Wi-Fi 7 introduces significant upgrades, including support for 320 MHz transmissions, doubling the 160 MHz bandwidth of Wi-Fi 6, and 4096-QAM, which enhances speed performance. However, one of its most exciting features is Multi-Link Operation (MLO). MLO allows a device to switch seamlessly from the 5 GHz band to the 6 GHz band if performance drops, ensuring a more reliable connection.
Wi-Fi 7 also introduces priority channels and traffic scheduling, which enhance both throughput and reliability. For iPhone 16 users, this means data can be transmitted simultaneously across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, delivering faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved network reliability.
Other Key Features of the iPhone 16
In addition to Wi-Fi 7, Apple has made significant improvements across the iPhone 16 lineup. Greg Joswiak, Appleās senior vice president of worldwide marketing, highlighted that the new iPhones are powered by the faster and more efficient A18 Pro chip, which enables advanced AI capabilities under the Apple Intelligence platform. This includes features like generating summaries from notifications, understanding and creating language and images, and producing summaries of recorded calls or audio.
Siri has also been upgraded with deeper system integration, offering more natural communication and personalized responses based on user context.
Cellular and Satellite Connectivity
In terms of cellular support, all iPhone 16 models in the U.S. will support both sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G bands. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Plus models also offer additional support for a range of bands, including n5 (850 MHz), n71 (600 MHz), n258 (26 GHz), and n260 (39 GHz), among others.
Moreover, iPhone 16 users will be able to send and receive messages via iMessage and SMS through satellite when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. A new Emergency SOS Live Video feature will also allow users to share live video or photos with emergency services during critical situations.
Pricing and Availability
In the U.S., the iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced at $1,199. Both models will be available starting September 20, with preorders opening this Friday.
